The introduction of vertical blinds carries the aesthetic implications of a post-WWII American home. Popularized in the 1950s, this window covering became stylish for fast-fabrication during the influx of soldiers returning from war. Looking to McCarthy-era design to examine our current national ethos, Aspic investigates bodily subjectivity, and our awareness of internal/external boundaries.

Aspic is a performance questioning the multiple meanings of American interiority through home and body. This work integrates mechanized sculptural set pieces and performers to create a constantly changing setting. This environment will allow viewership to slip between multiple perspectives, at once visible and obstructed, available and denied.
